Our firm
A family practice with Big Four training.
Toro CPA & Associates was built by an accountant who spent his early career at Deloitte and KPMG, then ran internal audit and finance inside two multinationals before deciding he would rather work with owners than boards.
The short version
Accounting, tax and finance are one conversation. For a private business they were never really three.
Cesar Toro started at Deloitte in Miami, spent four years at KPMG in San Juan, then moved into industry — internal audit for Scotiabank, then for Imerys across the Americas, then two years as financial director of a mining operation in Brazil turning over more than $100 million.
That path matters more than it might sound. It means the firm was founded by someone who has sat on both sides: the auditor asking for the schedule, and the finance director who has to produce it while also running a business. It is why our reporting is built to be read by lenders and buyers, not just to satisfy a filing requirement.
Margarita joined with two decades in banking and small-business accounting, and the practice grew the way family firms do — carefully, mostly by referral. Alejandro came in with an aerospace engineering degree and a habit of treating a client's financial infrastructure the way an engineer treats a design: precise, scalable, documented.
Today there are seven of us. We still do the compliance work that got us here, and we do it properly. But the firm has moved deliberately toward advisory — fractional CFO engagements, strategic tax planning, and the kind of forward-looking work that requires knowing a business rather than just filing for it.
How we work
Four things we are consistent about.
One team, from books to board
The person who reconciles your accounts, the person who files your return and the person who builds your forecast work in the same office and talk to each other. Most firms split these across vendors, and the seams are where things go wrong.
We will tell you when to spend less
If your books are behind, the honest answer is not a fractional CFO retainer — it is three months of cleanup and a tax plan. We say that regularly, and it costs us engagements. It is also why our clients stay.
Positions we can defend
Aggressive tax strategy is heavily marketed and reliably expensive once examined. We take the ordinary positions, apply them deliberately, and document the reasoning at the time — which produces better after-tax outcomes because it survives scrutiny.
Language is not a barrier here
English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian are spoken across the team. For business owners who have spent years explaining their finances in a second language, that turns out to matter a great deal.
